High Quality and Effective Office Manager / Receptionist

As part of our rapid growth, Excel in Key Subjects is looking for an effective Office Manager who will also act as a front person to meet visitors. We require someone who is well-organised, focused and is able to make tangible contributions within a progressive and dynamic small organisation. There will be flexibility between 3 to 5 days a week, but this must include Saturdays during school term time. The successful candidate will be an exceptional individual who is capable of working under pressure and can take the initiative. A person who is educated to at least A-level is strongly preferred, but not absolutely essential. What the successful candidate has to offer, as well as commitment to the job, is more important than their experience and qualifications.

 

What we are looking for

We are looking for an intelligent person with enthusiasm who is energetic, cheerful very presentable. The qualities that matter most for this position are as follows:

  1. A focused individual who is well disciplined and able to work using his/her own initiative
  2. Someone who considers himself/herself to be a clever person and who grasps concepts easily. The ability to think on your feet is vital and having a good degree of commonsense would be helpful
  3. An articulate person with very good spoken English, preferably with a neutral and NOT a strong accent of any sort – someone easy to understand
  4. Someone with a very sound knowledge of the British education system, for example, someone who has recently left school or university and who is familiar with the terminologies for different year groups, such as KS3, KS4, A-level and so on. A parent with child(ren) in the education system will also be familiar with these terminologies. An intelligent person with no detailed knowledge, but who can learn quickly may be acceptable

 

THE ROLE

  • Communicating with teachers and the head of the school about the courses we offer
  • Leading a small group of administrative staff and assistants
  • Meeting and receiving students and parents at the Saturday School
  • Assisting in managing marketing campaigns
  • Dealing with issues that arise from teachers, parents and students
  • HR responsibilities – shortlisting and inviting candidates to interview
  • Acting as a PR person at our promotional events
  • Editing and proofreading promotional literature
  • Direct responsibility to the head of the school
  • Customer relations
  • Other tasks connected with office administration.

Some of the Attributes Required

Excellent organisational, communication and relationship-building skills are vital for this position, as it includes managing the diary and projects in which the Principal is involved. Knowledge of the British education system would be helpful, but not absolutely essential. The successful candidate must be proficient in the use of most basic IT software, in addition to possessing the ability to perform most of the school and office’s administrative tasks. As this position involves considerable and frequent contact with clients and the public, a highly presentable person who is well spoken is required and impeccable English is absolutely essential.

The position will be based at our office in Greenwich during weekdays and at University College, London (in Euston) on Saturdays. For a suitable candidate, after the initial learning process, there may be the opportunity to work from home on one or more weekdays. There is a degree of flexibility in hours of work, but will include working on Saturdays during school term time, with one weekday off to compensate for this. The position is for between 3 and 5 days a week in total, including Saturdays during school term time. 

 

What We Do

Excel in Key Subjects provides extra tuition to teenage students who are studying for A-level and GCSE. Our communication is directed at parents who have children of secondary school age and who are looking for extra provision to improve their children’s performance in school. The courses we offer include Saturday Schools and also intensive revision courses during school holidays.

THE SALARY

The successful candidate will be offered a generous package, including an excellent initial salary with the possibility of an attractive commission structure on top.

The overall package is between £22k and £26k p.a. (pro-rata)
