6 weeks of Game Changer for your teenager

Higher Exam Grades at GCSE and
A-level in subjects that matter most

Effective, performance-boosting courses
between April and June

With fewer than 6 weeks of actual teaching (April to June) before the summer examinations, what your child does between now and April can make all the difference.

No, it’s not too late and I’ll prove it to you. My team and I at Excel in Key Subjects have completed 14 years of successfully helping teenagers to improve their GCSE and A-level exam grades in the subjects that matter most.

We are in the middle of our 15th year and, over that period, we have helped many teenagers to boost their exam performance. At the bottom of this page you can find testimonials from students and parents whom we have helped over the last one and a half decades. Yes, the best time to plant an oak tree was 25 years ago; the second best time is now.

From April to the first week of June 2019, we have four programmes that can help make a significant difference to your child’s exam grades. I will explain everything you need to know about these courses and provide you information to assist you in making a judgement to assess whether any of them are suitable for your child.

Before I do that, I’d like to tell you the benefits:

BENEFITS OF THE COURSES

Effective small-group tuition – led by a competent teacher – some of the very best teachers of A-level and GCSE

Your questions answered!

Now that I’ve provided you details of the benefits your child will derive from the course and its features, I’d like to answer some of the burning questions you may have in mind.

Who is this programme suitable for?

Young people who are studying for GCSE (including IGCSE), A-level and KS3 and who are of at least average ability. Our programmes are not suitable for young people who are academically weak and who may, perhaps, not be capable of achieving Grade 5 at GCSE or Grade C at A-level. No, it does not necessarily mean that they are currently working at that grade before they join us.

Most of our students are aiming for grades between B and A*, but many are not at that level before they join us. Some of them, perhaps, have unfulfilled potential and the value we add is to help notch up their grade.

The programmes we run between February and June may not be suitable for teenagers who are very weak academically.

What programmes do you have and for which age group?

A-level (A2 – final year of A-level)

6 Special Saturday Classes – April to June; Easter Intensive Revision; May Half-Term Intensive Revision

AS level (first year of A-level)

6 Special Saturday Classes – April to June; Easter Intensive Revision;;

GCSE (Y11 – final year of GCSE – also suitable for IGCSE)

6 Special Saturday Classes – April to June; Easter Intensive Revision;; May Half-Term Intensive Revision.

GCSE (Y10 – first year of GCSE – also suitable for IGCSE)

6 Special Saturday Classes – April to June.

KS3 (Y9 and Y8 – also suitable for some strong Y7 students)

6 Special Saturday Classes – April to June.

You may be wondering...

“What is the point of a revision course during May Half-Term, which is at the end of May?"

and also

"Saturday classes that run all the way to the first Saturday in June – isn’t it too late, as the exams are all in May?"

No, it’s not too late and, yes, some exams start in May. For GCSE, all the main exams are done in the weeks after the summer half-term holiday. In fact, it is an excellent way for last-minute reinforcement of knowledge and putting finishing touches to exam techniques.

For A-level (A2); no, it’s not too late as all the main A2 exams are in June. The May Half-Term Intensive is popular with A2 students as it is an excellent way for last-minute knowledge consolidation and mastery of exam techniques.

The May Half-Term Intensive is NOT suitable for the AS students who are taking the AS exams, as these exams are in May.

If you need any further information or have any more questions, please call 020 7112 4832 and ask to speak to Johnathon or Paula, who will be delighted to answer your questions and advise you as to the next step.

AS level - first year of A-level

Higher Exam Grades at A-level in subjects that matter most

Eight-week Game Changer for your teenager

Any of the two programmes below will reinforce your child’s subject knowledge of the first year of A-level and also equip them with exam technique. A good performance at the end of the first year is required for students to be allowed to progress into the final year of A-level. Most students are not taking any major exams at the end of the first year, but they will be taking internal exams.

The result of those internal exams will determine if they are allowed to proceed to the final year of A-level in that subject. It will help those who may be taking the AS exam this summer to prepare. Yes, the AS exam still exists and a minority of students still take the AS exam.

GCSE Year 10

English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (includes Combined Science and Triple Science)

Effective, performance-boosting courses between March and June

I’m sure you know that at least 60% of the GCSE is covered in Y10. This programme will ensure that your child ends the first year of GCSE on a strong academic footing – well-prepared for the final year

Programme for Y10 students – Spring & Summer 2019

GCSE Y10 – first year of GCSE (about 60% of the GCSE content is covered in Y10. This is also suitable for IGCSE students)

6 Special Saturday classes – April to June

For Y10 students who are in the first year of their GCSEs, the student starts with a diagnostic test in each of the subjects they are taking in Week 1 – followed by an interview and lessons in Week 2 and, then, just lessons for the remaining 6 weeks.

For dates, fees and other details, please see more information on the tables on this page.

For Y10 students, there is 60 minutes of teaching per subject for 6 Saturdays. A student can enrol to study up to five subjects each Saturday.

The Y10 programme is aimed at providing the 14 and 15-year olds – who are in Y10, the boost they required in order to end Y10 with an improved performance. This is important, as over 60% of the GCSE material is covered in Y10.

This course will help students who may be borderline between the Foundation and the Higher Tier GCSE to ensure they boost their performance and do well in the end-of-year tests. This will help them to, perhaps, move up a set in school and to ensure they actually do the Higher Tier if they are capable of it.

Some Y10 students do the Intensive Revision courses as opposed to the Saturday classes, but the intensive courses are mainly designed for Y11 students.

Sixty minutes of teaching per subject for 6 Saturdays. A student can enrol to study up to four subjects each Saturday. We put some students who are in Y9 in school in our GCSE Y10 groups. This is because some are very strong and are actually studying GCSE in school already.

The KS3 programme is aimed at Y9 and Y8 – providing the 12 to 14-year olds – who are in Y9 and Y8, the boost they require in order to end KS3 with an improved performance. This is important, as students are put in GCSE sets based on their performance at KS3.

The set GCSE students are put in will determine the tier of entry they do at GCSE. This course will help students who may be borderline between the Foundation and the Higher Tier GCSE to ensure we help improve their performance in school and for them to do well in the end-of-KS3 tests.

This will help them to, perhaps, move up to a higher set in school and ensure they end up in a GCSE set where they do the Higher Tier if they are capable of it.

A very tiny number of KS3 students do the Intensive Revision courses as opposed to the Saturday classes, but the intensive courses are mainly designed for Y11 students.
