Saturday Classes from February to May

Term Structure for Saturday Classes

The February to May Saturday classes are focused on preparing students for their summer examinations. Most students who attend these special sessions are in Y11 and Y13 (U6th), thus in the final year of GCSE or A-level. The focus of this course is mainly on question practice and helping these young people to master exam skills and technique, which they need to pick up marks in their exams. A little bit of time is still spent on reinforcing key concepts. This is often necessary in areas where students are still lacking in the understanding of the fundamentals.

This course consists of 12 Saturdays of learning plus an extra one for the Diagnostic Tests. However, some students join earlier or later and do a couple or so extra or fewer Saturdays. The number of Saturdays they join for is reflected in the fees that parents pay. There is a break over Easter and that break does not count as one of the Saturdays.

For students at KS3, Y10 and Y12 (L6th), there is an additional term to the 13 Saturdays. This extra term runs from May to July (8 Saturdays). The extra term does not include Y11 and Y13 as they are doing their final GCSE and A-level examinations.

At KS4 (GCSE, IGCSE) and KS3 (Y7, Y8 and Y9) each Saturday students spend 50 minutes on each subject.

KS3 and GCSE classes are usually held between 10am and 2:30pm. Most of our students study English, Maths and Science and spend just over four hours with us on a Saturday. GCSE and IGCSE students who enrol for Triple Science usually stay for an extra 45 minutes. A student does not have to do all the subjects, they can do just two or three if they wish. There is a maximum of five students per class at KS3 and KS4 and tuition is focused on each individual student according to their exam board.

AS and A2 spend two hours per subject each Saturday and a student can do up to three subjects on a Saturday. Classes start at 10.00am and some classes are scheduled for the afternoon and do not finish until about 5pm. There is a maximum of three students per class and tuition is focused on each individual student according to their exam board. A programme is set up for the student after the initial Diagnostic and Alignment sessions.

Consultation and Open Day

See Open Days for dates.

In the event you wish to discuss any of our programmes with us, please call us on 020 7112 4832 and a senior member of our advisory team will be happy to speak to you. We have an Open Day in January, during which parents are welcome to visit and meet our teachers. Most people enrol well before the Open Day. If you enrol with us, and for some reason you wish to withdraw after the Open Day, you can do so at no cost to you as any fees you might have paid will be fully refunded. We also have an open door policy, whereby parents can visit on a Saturday. You will have the opportunity to attend with your family, to meet the teachers and to discuss and ask questions as you wish.

The subjects we cover at KS3 and GCSE are: English, Maths, Science (all awards – Combined (double) and Triple. Both Combined and Triple have an element of all the three Science subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

At AS and A2 level, we cover: English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology on Saturdays. In addition, we also provide for Economics, History and Psychology during the intensive revision, which takes place at Christmas, Easter and Half-Term.

The Programmes we Offer:

    • Saturday Classes

Combined Science counts as two subjects.  This is because two lessons (50 minutes each) are spent on science subjects each week. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are all included. We have a rotation system for Combined Science students, whereby we focus on two of the sciences each week and rotate. For example, we may cover Physics and Chemistry for about three weeks and then rotate onto Physics and Biology and then to Chemistry and Biology. Most Combined Science students enrol for four lessons – Maths, English and Combined (Double Science) and study from 10am to about 2.30pm each Saturday.

Students have an extra assignment period each week, and this is when they can spend time practising questions independently – often with help from teachers. This additional time is included in the fees, and also in the time that is stated above.

Triple Science (also called Separate Science)

Triple Science students spend three lessons (50 minutes each) on science subjects every week. They usually choose to spend three lessons on science – Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Most Triple Science students enrol for five lessons – Maths, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. They study from 10am to about 3.30pm each Saturday. However, even Triple Science students do not have to do all the five, as they may just want to do two, three  or four lessons.

Your questions answered!

Now that I've provided you details of the benefits your child will derive from the course and its features, I'd like to answer some of the burning questions you may have in mind.

Who is this programme suitable for?

Young people who are studying for GCSE (including IGCSE), A-level and KS3 and who are of at least average ability. Our programmes are not suitable for young people who are academically weak and who may, perhaps, not be capable of achieving Grade 5 at GCSE or Grade C at A-level. No, it does not necessarily mean that they are currently working at that grade before they join us.

Most of our students are aiming for grades between B and A*, but many are not at that level before they join us. Some of them, perhaps, have unfulfilled potential and the value we add is to help notch up their grade.

The programmes we run between February and June may not be suitable for teenagers who are very weak academically.

What programmes do you have and for which age group?

A-level - those who are just starting the second and final year of A-level in September)
