Teaching Jobs at Excel in Key Subjects

We are looking for experienced secondary school teachers in these subjects: English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Psychology. We prefer a qualified teacher who has taught in British Schools or a graduate of a top university in the UK, who is not necessarily a qualified teacher but must be from a top university.

The position is to teach motivated young people in small groups on Saturdays at one of our centres in London. There is the flexibility of teaching for a half day or full day;  the rate for half a day (about 3 hours) is between £90 to £120 and £170 to £195 (about 6-8 hours) for a full day, depending on the number of hours and the timetable.

The timetable is like that of any secondary school, where you will teach your subject to different age groups. GCSE lessons are for 1 hour and A-level lessons are for 90 minutes.

Excel in Key Subjects runs revision courses to help teenagers boost their GCSE and A-level exam grades in mainly core subjects. Teenagers go to their school normally during weekdays and come to us on Saturdays for extra tuition in small groups of fewer than 10 students per class. Our students are mainly high performers – young people from aspirational families, who want to achieve the top exam grades. At A-level, they aspire to gain admission to top universities to study Engineering, Medicine, Law, Economics, etc.  At GCSE, they are looking to achieve top grades so that they can enter a grammar school or a top sixth form college to study A-level.

The job is for teachers who prefer to teach academic and motivated students; the crowd controlling element of teaching is absent.

We operate on Saturdays (about 30 Saturdays a year) during school term time and we also have separate weekday intensive revision courses during school holidays. A teacher does not have to commit to both programmes as most of our teachers do either the Saturday teaching or the Intensive Revision during school holidays.

Some of our teaching centres are at:

  1. Birkbeck/UCL – on Gower Street in Euston
  2. Greenwich University in Greenwich – the Old Royal Naval College
  3. Trinity School in Croydon
  4. The London School of English in Holland Park
