Structure
90 hours of lesson – including 45 hours of teacher contact time, teacher marking and assessment and 45 hours of question practice, part of which is supervised. Questions set in the lesson are done shortly after each lesson. They are done under supervision and handed in straight away, and the teacher reviews the work and spends the first part of the following lesson to go through the questions.
For online lessons
Our online procedures and terms and conditions apply in full. The features of our online lessons have made them very effective.
This includes
- Despite lessons being online on live video camera, work set is in handwriting, as this reflects how the real exams are still done. The student is allowed to type if they have special permission to type in the exam, and the parents sanction this. It is advantageous if the student can use a digital pen to handwrite
- Camera must be turned on by both the teacher and student during lessons. Same is for question practice, as the lesson is being supervised
- The student is allowed to turn off the camera briefly for privacy, and when taking a break, but the camera must be turned back on as soon as the student resumes working
- The work must be scanned, or a picture taken and sent as a pdf attachment in an e-mail straight after question practice. Alternatively, the student may download the work into a shared Google Drive
- Most lessons are recorded – for transparency and monitoring and quality control. It is important that the student is on task all the time
- The student is expected to dress in a way that is decent and presentable as lessons are recorded – casual but presentable
- Mobile phones must be turned off during the lesson and cannot be allowed to be used as a calculator. The student should have a scientific calculator – and that cannot be on the mobile phone
How the course works after enrolment
